My confession about burnout (and how I fixed it)
I have a secret.
After 4 years of hosting Brick's phone-free retreats, I was burning out.
I had one-man-band syndrome. Promoting, curating, producing, marketing, hosting and holding space for attendees - I was wearing too many hats.
Watching this beautiful community to grow was deeply fulfilling work, but I was struggling to make it sustainable energetically.
For example, after our Joshua Tree retreat I remember being in bed for an entire week, just to recharge.
And after 4 years, I became so jaded I just wanted to retire.
So when the pandemic hit, it was a relief to HAVE to focus on other things.
I even decided that I wasn’t going to throw Brick retreats ever again.
Instead I’d focus on my burgeoning digital habits coaching practice, to keep the business growing over Zoom.
But then I went to a retreat in Tulum hosted by my mindset coach, Miro Heyink, and two things happened:
1) I realized it WAS possible to safely throw a transformational retreat in the middle of a pandemic.
2) I met Leon Lightman.
Leon is the top-rated adventure guide in all of Latin America.
He’s guided trips across 32 different countries over the last 17 years.
He also owns a bunch of phone-free restaurant experiences, so we vibed hard.
Leon showed me how with his help, Brick Retreats could come back, bigger and better than ever before - without burning me out.
In fact, if I was willing to fully entrust him to do what he does best, I could actually ATTEND my own retreats.
I'd get to curate the group and then just show up and teach new coaching frameworks I'd developed over the years.
He would handle literally everything else.
I was so inspired by this vision, that over a handshake deal on a beach in Tulum, our new partnership was born.
And Brick Retreats were back! Although I was still hesitant to be trusting someone else with "my business."
A few months later, Brick's Guatemala Leadership Retreat was up and running.
With Leon and his team handling all the logistics, production, meals, experiences, accommodations and "explosive" surprises, I let them go wild in their genius zone, while I lived in mine.
It ended up being one of the best weeks of my life. Six of the attendees said something along those lines as well.
And I think the recap video speaks for itself.
So why am I telling you this?
Because you don't have to do it all by yourself.
If you're running a one-man (or one-woman) band like I was, you probably believe no one out there will do the job quite as good as you.
You might think you can't rely on people. Or that you're better off alone.
Those are all myths. They are holding you back.
And sooner or later, you're going to burn out.
Because there are few things as powerful as partnership.
And there are few things that magnify your time and energy as much as effective delegation.
I’m so very lucky and grateful to have been given the chance to meet Leon, Chase and Chard, who saw Brick's potential and were willing to help bring Brick Retreats back to life, better than I ever could have done on my own.
I've finally found a way to host Brick Retreats sustainably. And making a much bigger impact because of it.
If you’re curious to learn how YOU can do what I did and go from doing it all yourself, to creating a team around you that you trust, so you can quantum leap to the next level, there are some spots left for our next retreat to Zion on March 24-27th.
I'll be teaching the exact frameworks that allowed me to understand and trust in my "genius zone" and empower people around me to support the vision together.
And we'll clear all of the mindset blocks that are preventing you getting the support you know deep down you really need.
And you won't believe what Leon has envisioned for Zion!
If you like what you saw in Guatemala, then you’re going to LOVE what's in store at Zion.
If you’re curious about the Zion Retreat, I’m hosting a live Q&A with Leon this Wednesday (10am Pacific). Join us to get all your questions answered and meet other attendees!
And our friends at Necessaire are giving away 10 gifts of my favorite body wash just for showing up!
